
On November 30, the T1000-grade carbon fiber project was completed and put into production in Yungang District, Datong City, Shanxi Province. It has successfully achieved the localized mass production of 12K small-tow T1000-grade carbon fiber, marking a crucial breakthrough in the large-scale mass production of domestic high-performance carbon fiber.
Fang Yitian, Director of the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, commented that this project has broken foreign technological monopolies and provided guarantees for enhancing the security and resilience of the national key material supply chain.
The T1000-grade carbon fiber project has started mass production in Datong, Shanxi.
As a key basic material for industries such as aerospace, new energy vehicles, and high-end equipment, high-performance carbon fiber is the "lifeblood" and forerunner for countries around the world to develop high and new technologies, cutting-edge national defense technologies, and transform traditional industries. It is one of the main development directions in China's strategic emerging industries and is known as the "King of New Materials".
In recent years, Huayang New Material Technology Group Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Huayang Group"), a state-owned enterprise under the administration of Shanxi Province, has focused on addressing the "bottleneck" issues in high-end, urgently needed, and key strategic materials in China. It has joined hands with Datong City and the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences to advance the construction of the T1000-grade high-performance carbon fiber project.
The first phase of the project, a 200-ton/year high-performance carbon fiber demonstration production line, broke ground in June 2024 and was completed and put into production on November 30, 2025. The T1000-grade carbon fiber produced by the project has a single filament diameter of only 6 to 7 microns, less than 1/10 of a human hair, while its tensile strength exceeds 6,400 MPa. Its density is only 1/4 that of steel, and its strength is more than 5 times that of steel. Taking a 1-meter-long bundle of Huayang carbon material's T1000-grade carbon fiber as an example, it weighs only 0.5 grams but can bear a load of over 200 kilograms.

It is reported that Huayang's T1000-grade carbon fiber integrates core advantages such as high strength, light weight, resistance to high and low temperatures, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and good thermal and electrical conductivity. It is widely used in fields such as national defense and military industry, aerospace, rail transit, and low-altitude economy.
Cao Rongxiang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanxi Provincial Government, stated that this project has not only achieved a breakthrough in the core technology of high-performance carbon fiber but also filled the industrial gap in the province. "It is hoped that Huayang Group will build a domestically leading high-performance carbon fiber industrial base, attract upstream and downstream supporting enterprises to gather in Shanxi, and promote the formation of a complete industrial chain covering 'R&D – production – application'."
