WeylChem Wesseling GmbH (Frankfurt, Germany) has announced its entry into the advanced materials market with the formation of a new Advanced Materials business line in Germany. 

The company has more than 65 years of expertise in the manufacturing and handling of cyanogen chlorides derivatives, a key building block for cyanate esters and other cross-linking agents like triallyl cyanurate (TAC) and isocyanurate (Taicros). While the company doesn’t offer finished fiber reinforcement products, its portfolio plays a vital role in the composites value chain. This includes thermoset resins (such as cyanate esters) and aromatic amines, used as curative or chain-extenders for fiber-reinforced epoxy resins. 

The company says it operates Europe’s largest backward-integrated feedstock supply of cyanate ester raw materials and its derivatives, supported by a sophisticated on-site hydrogen cyanide (HCN) network. This strategic position has enabled a forward integration initiative, including investment in cyanate ester chemistry to meet both current and future customer needs.

“With strong support from our group CEO, Dr. Andreas Maier and encouragement from our key customers, we are entering the advanced materials market with a strong product portfolio,” says Dr. Stefan Sigmund, managing director of WeylChem Wesseling. “Our [new] products will be marketed under the Welcure and Welset brand names.”

Initial offerings from the Advanced Materials line will include Welcure BTCDA and Welcure CAF, along with TAC and Taicros, which are widely used as cross-linker in polyphenylene oxide (PPO) and hydrocarbon resins for CCL and other industrial applications. BTCDA is recognized in the electronics and aerospace markets for epoxy curing and polyimide building blocks, used in various composites applications. The company is also committed to expanding its portfolio to include cyanate esters and other aromatic M-bisanilines, which will enable WeylChem to offer a line of products for the electronics and aerospace markets.

WeylChem Wesseling also announces a long-term strategic partnership with Novoset LLC (Peapack), a New Jersey-based advanced material company. Dr. Sajal Das, founder and CEO of Novoset, has joined the WeylChem team as a partner in innovation, marketing and growth.
