The Foundation for Research, Development and Application of Composite Materials (FIDAMC, Getafe, Spain), an R&D and training center dedicated to the research, development and application of innovative technologies in the design and manufacture of composite structures, has celebrated the symbolic laying of the first stone of its new technology building, a key step in its strategy of growth and capacity building in the aerospace sector.

The event was attended by numerous authorities and institutional and industry representatives. “This project is a commitment to the future,” says Ernesto González, CEO of FIDAMC. “Not only are we expanding our facilities, but we are also reinforcing our commitment to innovation, employment and the technological sovereignty of the Spanish aerospace industry.”

The new facility, which will cover more than 500 square meters, will be built just behind FIDAMIC’s main building in Getafe. It will be used to increase the productive and technological capacity of FIDAMIC and Ensia Expert (Testia, Madrid, Spain), a 100% Airbus Group company, focused on the structural integrity of components and aircraft, with the aim of responding to the growing demand for new technological needs in the aerospace field.

FIDAMC is an industrial research center of national and international reference, specializing in the development of advanced technologies for the manufacture of composite material structures. Its applications mainly reside in the aeronautical sector, although FIDAMC also works in other sectors such as naval and automotive. It works closely with companies, technology centers and public institutions to promote innovation, sustainability and competitiveness in the industry.

Pedro Serrano, managing director of Ensia Expert, says the facility will enable the company to expand its testing and certification capabilities, while reinforcing a technological synergy with FIDAMC. “It is a strategic step to meet the challenges of new air mobility and to consolidate our presence in the European innovation ecosystem,” he adds.

This new warehouse will be operational in September 2025. “We strongly support this initiative,” adds Ricardo Rojas, president of commercial aircraft at Airbus Spain. “It is a clear example of how collaboration between industry, technology centers and administrations makes it possible to move toward a more competitive sector that is prepared for future challenges.”
