Within the last week, several of Hexagon Group’s (Stockholm, Sweden) subsidiaries under Hexagon Composites — its division specializing in composite materials and fuel systems — have reported significant U.S. and international orders.

On April 15, Hexagon Purus (Oslo, Norway) received its first purchase order for the delivery of its next-gen hydrogen fuel storage systems from MCV, a bus manufacturer in the Middle East and Africa, worth approximately €2.4 million. Hexagon Purus’ Type 4 composite hydrogen fuel storage systems will be delivered in 2025 for use onboard MCV’s hydrogen fuel-cell electric buses targeted for the European public transportation market.

The hydrogen storage systems will be manufactured in Hexagon Purus’ facility in Kassel, Germany (read CW’s plant tour).

“We continue experiencing strong commercial momentum for hydrogen transit bus as more bus manufacturers introduce fuel-cell electric bus offerings to support decarbonization of public transportation across several core markets,” notes Michael Kleschinski, executive VP, hydrogen mobility and infrastructure at Hexagon Purus.

On April 22, subsidiaries Hexagon Agility (Costa Mesa, Calif., U.S.) and Hexagon Digital Wave (Centennial, Colo., U.S.) received orders from a major refuse fleet in North America. The orders, representing an estimated value of $20.6 million, span three major business segments within the Hexagon Group:

  • Fuel systems from Hexagon Agility: Orders for renewable natural gas (RNG) fuel systems for the customer’s refuse fleet.
  • Mobile Pipeline modules from Hexagon Agility, which will facilitate the production and distribution of RNG, to be used as fuel for the company’s refuse fleet.
  • Cylinder requalification services from Hexagon Digital Wave: Orders to perform in situ requalification using modal acoustic emission (MAE) technology, providing enhanced safety and reduced trailer downtime for the RNG transportation fleet.

These are the first major orders from a customer covering three of Hexagon’s core business segments. Deliveries of these orders have started and will continue until Q3 2025.

“This order validates the strength of our strategy — to bring together adjacent and complementary technologies under the Hexagon umbrella, serving customers from energy production to application and then aftermarket,” says Eric Bippus, chief commercial officer of Hexagon Composites.
