A fundamental aspect of sustainable infrastructure is service life. Materials that offer extended durability reduce the need for replacements, maintenance interventions and resource consumption over decades of use. GRP pipes, developed over several decades for demanding water, waste water and industrial applications exemplify this approach.

Corrosion-resistant, lightweight and requiring minimal maintenance, GRP piping systems can remain operational for generations. Their low weight not only simplifies installation but also reduces transportation energy requirements compared to traditional heavier materials, further lowering lifecycle emissions. The next step towards a sustainable future

Building on the inherent sustainability of GRP technology, a global GRP pipe producer Amiblu has taken a next step towards a sustainable future with the launch of PROX – low-emission pipes, the company’s latest innovation.

PROX pipes offer all the proven benefits of Amiblu standard solutions – longevity, strength, corrosion resistance, easy handling – with up to 50% lower carbon emissions. Achieved through the integration of alternative, more sustainable raw materials, optimised logistics and the use of renewable energy in production, Amiblu PROX significantly reduces the carbon footprint of water infrastructure projects without compromising on quality, durability or design flexibility.

Demonstrated impact: 40% emission reductions in Spain

Amiblu PROX has already been implemented in the La Presa de Manises drinking water treatment plant expansion in Valencia, Spain, managed by Global Omnium. In this project, the use of PROX pipes resulted in a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to standard GRP pipes. This reduction was achieved through a combination of alternative raw materials, optimised transportation logistics and the use of renewable energy in manufacturing.

Global Omnium is the largest Spanish company that manages the complete water cycle in almost 350 towns and is certified as a sustainable purchasing company.
